The battle was one of the most important naval engagements of the Pacific War and resulted in the destruction of four Japanese aircraft carriers. The American victory halted Japan&amp;rsquo;s strategic expansion in the Pacific and shifted the initiative toward the United States.&lt;/p&gt;
